Amedi is a beautiful town built on a mountain plateau. It is situation 90 km northeast of Duhok. Many of the houses still have their original stonework. The town has many historic sites, including the Old Mosque that is still used by residents.The history of the city of Amadiya goes back as far as ancient Assyria and it has probably existed even prior to that due to its strategic place on the flat top of a mountain.Amedi is the hometown of my dear friend Mohammed Mustafa Hasan who took me there. We visited his relatives living in the town.
